The LabEx EFL (Empirical Foundations of Linguistics) is hiring a Post-Doc researcher. This position is part of a collaboration between the Laboratoire de Linguistique Formelle (LLF) and the Laboratoire Langues et Civilisations à Tradition Orale (LACITO) that aims to develop NLP methods to help linguists in their work of language description.
The position is funded by Strand 5 (Computational Semantic Analysis) and Strand 1 (Phonetic and Phonological Complexity) of LABEX. The recruited person will design methods for analyzing neural representations of speech (such as the one predicted by wav2vec or HuBERT) and, in particular, linguistic probes in order to automatically extract properties related to the typology of a language (e.g. phoneme inventory, phonological and morphosyntactic complexity index, ...).
The recruited researcher will:
participate in the design of the experimental protocols, in particular by identifying the characteristics of the languages to be predicted;
Develop experiments and analyze the results obtained;
Valorize the results obtained, in particular through publications.
Expected skills:
PhD in Linguistic or NLP
Knowledge of machine learning tools and methods
Knowledge of python
Ability to dialogue and coordinate with the various project partners: field linguists, computer scientists, engineers, …
