Summary: This session will consist of a presentation or a reminder of the fundamental notions necessary to describe a quantitative data set, as well as their meaning. We will talk about mean, median, quantiles and more widely about distributions (variance, standard deviation, extremes). I will come back to the simple calculation of these values as well as their interests but also their limits and the interest of inferential analyses. In addition, the different types of analysis variables will be described: dependent, independent and spurious.
